3-Day Intensive: Accessing Creative Freedom and the Power of Circumstances

This Three Day Intensive will introduce actors to Demidov’s unique approach to accessing our inner freedom, cultivating our intuition, perception, spontaneity, and ability to surrender fully to our inner urges and the truth of our experience in the moment.

Over the course of the three days, through work with Demidov’s signature etudes (improvisational exercises with given text), actors will discover how to effortlessly be guided by the circumstances of a given text and to surrender to them fully. We will learn how circumstances become ‚given‘, and how they become clearer and deeper every time we repeat a scene. We will learn to let ourselves be driven by the force of circumstances, rather forcing ourselves to do, think or feel anything. In this way, living as character becomes effortless and spontaneous.

THIS INTENSIVE IS FOR ACTORS BOTH NEW TO THE DEMIDOV WORK, AND ALSO FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO GO DEEPER INTO IT. THE INTENSIVE WILL BE THREE DAYS, SIX HOURS EACH DAY. SEE BELOW FOR THE EXACT TIMES.

The Demidov Organic Acting Technique is rooted in the culture of creative freedom. The Demidov School approaches the creative process as an indivisible whole (everything we need is already there from the beginning). We put the actor’s talent, creativity, and intuition at the heart of everything we do. The Demidov School was created in the latter part of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th Century by Nikolai Demidov, a close associate of Stanislavsky. As founding director of the Moscow Art Theatre’s School, and one of the three original teachers of the Stanislavsky System, Nikolai Demidov uncovered the professional secret that puts actors in touch with their own creative individuality by teaching them to recognise and follow their artistic instincts, and he was able to solve the problems of the actor’s creative state that Stanislavsky never could.

The intensive will be taught by Demidov Studio Vienna Founder and Director Andrei Biziorek.
